Nelnah Bessie John School Community Committee

The Nelnah Bessie John School (NBJS) Community Committee is the governing body for the school in Beaver Creek. The Committee shares authorities and responsibilities with the First Nation School Board over the management and operation of the school.

The members of the Community Committee are representatives of, and accountable to, the community of Beaver Creek including the First Nations, Elders and Knowledge Keepers, residents and citizens, parents, families - and above all - the Learners of NBJS.

The Community Committee meets regularly, four times throughout the school year. To reach the Community Committee, please email using the button below.

The NBJS Community Committee Members are Paula Chisolm, Ruth Johnny, Davie Johnny Sr, Angela Demit and Roberta Sembsmoen.

Community Committees empower the community to guide its own school.

Beaver Creek First Nation signed a Community Committee Agreement with the First Nation School Board on June 27th, 2024.

The historic signing of this agreement by Chief Bessie Chassé and FNSB Chair Dana Tyzia-Tramm led to the creation of the Nelnah Bessie John School Community Committee.

Community Committee agreements are flexible to change, adapt, and grow in time. They outline which powers of the Education Act are shared between the Community Committee and the school board.
